While traditional hearing aids capture and process sound outside of the ear, Lyric uses the natural anatomy of the ear to amplify and give you a full, natural listening experience.

How Lyric Works

The mechanical geometry of the Lyric core is stored safely inside soft, biocompatible foam seals that contour to the ear canal and ensure natural ventilation and stable placement. The battery is specifically designed to withstand the deep ear environment for months at a time. Lyric amplifies sounds using the natural mechanisms of the ear. The Lyric microphone and receiver further enhance this.

Studies show that Lyric is rated as sounding natural when compared to the open ear.¹

Because Lyric is placed in the ear canal near the eardrum by a trained professional, it is a 100% invisible hearing aid.

Lyric provides benefits unlike any other hearing aid for unrestricted living. It can be worn in the shower**, while wearing a helmet for active, physical sports and with headphones in. And because you can wear Lyric while sleeping, once you wake up, you don’t have to put them in or turn them on like traditional hearing aids.

No Fuss

Once they are fit by a hearing care professional, they are designed to be worn 24 hours a day for months at a time. Better still, Lyric requires no maintenance or batteries to change or charge.

Initial sizing, placing and programming Lyric, combined with counseling, takes approximately one hour. Device replacement visits take approximately 10 minutes.

A broad size range consisting of 7 sizes – from XXS to XXL models – is available to comfortably fit as many different ear sizes as possible. The various sizes provide more patient satisfaction and wearing comfort.2

An estimated 10–15% of a population has tinnitus but most cases go untreated.³ This is due to a lack of information and the fact that most people are unaware of who will understand their condition or assist them. While some cases are minor, some require more specific treatment to overcome possible long-term effects.

Lyric is sold through authorized Lyric Providers on a subscription basis. A subscription covers 1, 2 and 3 years — including replacement devices and servicing throughout the subscription period.

Each Lyric device can last for months at a time. This duration can vary, depending on the patient and their individual ear conditions. However, unlike standard hearing aids — which need to be replaced — Lyric’s subscription model provides you with new devices on a regular basis.

Whenever you need a new Lyric, simply visit your provider. Your hearing care provider will fit you with a new in the ear hearing aid. Every replacement can be done in just a few minutes time.

There are no repairs or battery replacements needed, and you will receive technology updates as they become available.

Subscription costs are largely affected by where you live. You should also discuss payment options for a Lyric subscription with your hearing care provider. These may vary locally, and they will be happy to discuss them with you.

Every Lyric subscription comes with SoundLync, a magnetic adjustment tool that allows you to adjust the volume, turn Lyric on and off, and to put it in sleep mode. Lyric can also be removed, if needed, with SoundLync.

Can patients use their phone with Lyric?

Yes, another benefit of Lyric is that it can be worn while talking on any phone. A benefit of Lyric is that you can use any type of phone without the need to connect or use Bluetooth. Headphones can be worn at the same time.

Benefits of Lyric for Providers 

Lyric helps you differentiate your practice because it is unlike any other hearing aid. The Lyric subscription model delivers a consistent and predictable revenue stream from yearly renewals, while generating more sales opportunities with patients who may not be suitable for Lyric. Subscriptions are assets and help you grow your business.

Self-replacement**

Cut replacement time in half. Self-replacement is an optional procedure for patients to replace Lyric devices on their own. After assessing and training them, you accompany them during the entirety of their subscription, while continuing to check their ears on a regular basis. You then replace their Lyric devices every other time, while still providing a high level of care. The only change with self-replacement is a decrease in the frequency of in-clinic visits. This benefits you both and also frees you up to see additional patients. 

Self-replacement is not available in Canada at this time but is coming soon.

Frequently asked questions

Lyric must not be worn while diving underwater or skydiving. Pressure changes from these activities may cause discomfort and/or feedback if Lyric moves in the ear canal. If these activities are done accidentally while wearing Lyric, a Certified Lyric Fitter must examine the ear canal.

Lyric is water resistant, not waterproof. Therefore, underwater swimming and diving are not recommended. However, Lyric can be worn in the shower or during water activities in which the head is not fully submerged under water. Further protection measures for Lyric hearing aids can be taken, such as using over-the-counter or custom swim molds. Check the length of the swim molds to ensure that they do not touch the device when worn.

Headsets, insert earphones and earplugs can be used if they do not touch the Lyric hearing aid. The Authorized Lyric Partner will check if the chosen headsets will work in combination with Lyric. 

Lyric must be removed before having an MRI scan because the hearing aid contains metallic parts. Unlike an MRI scan, an X-ray or CT scan will not damage or dislodge the hearing aid because a magnet is not used. However, the physician and/or technician should be informed about the hearing aid. If an X-ray or CT scan of the ear or head is needed, the hearing aid may need to be removed. The physician should also be informed about Lyric if the wearer is having surgery of any kind. 

It is recommended to have the hearing aid removed by a Lyric trained hearing care professional. If necessary the wearer can remove Lyric with the provided removal tool.

Lyric is an FDA-cleared hearing aid and has been extensively studied in hundreds of clinical research patients since 2001. In more than 15 years of clinical monitoring, there have been no reports of serious complications. Lyric was commercially launched in 2007 and has been safely worn by hundreds of thousands of patients. 

Lyric can be worn for months at a time. However, individual replacement needs will vary as device battery life is subject to individual ear conditions, level of hearing loss and environmental noise level.
